St. Andrew’s requires many types of routine work to operate smoothly. Member volunteers participate in worship services, in church governance, and in physical maintenace of the grounds and buildings.
Altar Guild
Members of the Altar Guild prepare Communion and decorate the altar area according to the season of the church.
Acolytes
Acolytes are young people who light the candles on the altar before the service and assist with communion.
Archive Committee
This group gathers and preserves St. Andrew’s history through pictures and memorabilia.
Assisting Ministers
Assisting ministers are lay people who help the pastor lead worship services. This role often requires leading a responsive reading or singing a part to which the congregation responds.
Church Council
The church council is the lay leadership of the congregation. This group is elected by the membership and meets regularly to conduct the business of the church. Posts include President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Council Liaisons for Church in Society, Worship, Education, Financial Support, Maintenance, Membership and Involvement, Hospitality, and Youth.
Flowers
Members provide flowers for the altar each Sunday by paying for their cost. The flowers are often provided to commemorate a special event or remember a loved one. Sign up on the sheet in the narthex. Note that St. Andrew’s provides a rose on the altar for all births in the St. Andrew’s community.
Lectors
Lectors read the weekly Bible lessons to the congregation during worship.
Maintenance
Volunteers tend the rose garden, waterfall, and other aspects of the church grounds. In addition, volunteers help with many special projects, such as painting, installing new lights, and building cabinets.
Ushers
Ushers greet worshipers and distribute hymnals (song/worship books) and bulletins. Ushers also assist with communion, offering, and seating (if necessary). Please contact an usher if you have any question or problems during a service.
